The Need

Statistically, we know that the most amount of unplanned pregnancies happen between the ages of 18-29. This group is primarily college-aged students. According to this statistic, it should be much more common to see pregnant students walking their campuses. Why is this not the case?

Judgment, stigma, and lack of resources leave them feeling isolated and unsupported with no safe place to turn. Simply put: They do not believe they can have both their education and their baby.

The Solution

Baby Steps. We empower pregnant and parenting college students facing an unplanned pregnancy to have their education and their baby by providing housing, support, and community.

Housing + Community

Baby Steps is more than a house close to campus. It is a place where Student-Moms are not defined by their circumstances but are empowered to thrive as both mothers and students. They are met with compassion, love, and support, not only from the Baby Steps team but also from their community as a whole.

This is just the beginning.

Jim Hutcherson

Maureen Hutcherson

“Baby Steps allowed me to raise my daughter in a peaceful and stable environment, something I couldn’t have done otherwise. I didn’t have to worry about how I was going to afford rent, bills, and daycare while going to school full-time. They gave me the ability to focus on school so that I could build the future my daughter and I deserve.

They also provided a place where I felt supported, loved, and understood. I truly could not have done it without them!”

Help us establish Baby Steps at UCF and provide crucial resources that will leave a generational impact in the Orlando community.
